Interdisciplinary Master’s Program in Applied Human and Social Sciences
The Interdisciplinary Master’s Program in Applied Human and Social Sciences was established in 2013. Its core objective is to prepare academic professionals to work in the interdisciplinary field through a solid theoretical-epistemological and methodological foundation in the applied human and social sciences.
The program aims to develop professionals capable of:
- Conducting interdisciplinary research driven by concrete problems of the contemporary world;
- Managing and employing diverse theoretical and methodological resources to develop original analytical perspectives;
- Contributing to the scientifically informed treatment of these problems.
These skills and competencies are not cultivated through a "new model" or a "predefined form" of interdisciplinarity. Each thesis reflects, to varying degrees, the demands of the problem chosen for investigation, reinforcing the idea that, in the case of ICHSA, interdisciplinarity is not a research theme, but an attitude and a reflective way of conceiving and producing knowledge.
The program is structured around a single area of concentration, Modernity and Public Policies, which unfolds into two lines of research:
- Sustainability and Social Protection
- Technological Changes and the Human Condition
The relationship between the area of concentration and the research lines organizes and guides the faculty’s work with students, both in course development and in research and supervision activities, which take place in research laboratories and groups.
The program lasts 24 months and requires the completion of 26 credits. The courses are divided into required and elective categories. The required courses are responsible for providing the epistemological and theoretical-methodological foundation so that advisors, co-advisors, and students can develop interdisciplinary arrangements aligned with the specific research problems of each thesis.
With this structure, ICHSA seeks to attract students, researchers, and professionals from diverse academic backgrounds—whether from the exact, human, or biological sciences—who are open to an interdisciplinary academic experience grounded in the applied human and social sciences.
ICHSA Graduate Program Committee (2024–2025)
Composed of faculty members accredited by the program, the Committee oversees and supervises the activities of the ICHSA Master’s Program.
