Overview of Alumni and Monitoring Methods
The Graduate Program in Nutrition and Sports Sciences and Metabolism (PPG-CNEM) aims to train masters and doctors with a high ethical and professional sense, a comprehensive multidisciplinary vision, a keen critical sense, and social responsibility, committed to advancing knowledge in the area of Nutrition, Health, and related areas. The program aims to train solid and qualified professionals in the various areas of concentration, endowed with intellectual independence for the exercise of teaching and scientific dissemination. These professionals dominate research through the rigorous application of the scientific method, guided by ethics and multidisciplinarity, and are able to act as critical and conscious citizens of their role as health professionals, both in the area of Nutrition and in the area of Sports.
The profile of students entering the PPG-CNEM has enriched the debates on Nutrition as a science, articulating with the most varied aspects, whether social, political, cultural, biological, and psychological. This fact is evidenced by the diversity of the student body, composed of professionals graduated in various areas of knowledge, including nutritionists, doctors, biologists, physical education professionals, pharmacists, physiotherapists, engineers, statisticians, among others. These professionals come from both the state of São Paulo and other states of the Federation, such as Rio de Janeiro, Minas Gerais, Rio Grande do Sul, Mato Grosso, Pernambuco, and even from other countries, such as those in Africa.
Furthermore, the development of extension activities aimed at the humanized training of health professionals, with an emphasis on basic and community care, complements the teaching and research activities developed by students.
In this scenario of diversity and excellence, the individual training of PPG-CNEM alumni enables them to enter different professional activities and academic areas, covering nutrition sciences, sports sciences, basic sciences, and health sciences, positively impacting the well-being of the community where they live and work professionally.
Aiming to comprehensively assess the individual training of alumni, the PPG-CNEM has carried out systematic monitoring through different strategies and combined information collection instruments. This effort aims to collect the largest amount of relevant information about alumni and maintain an updated database of the program.
It is worth highlighting the University's commitment, particularly the unit that hosts the PPG-CNEM, in implementing measures that aim to strengthen ties with alumni, in order to map their positions in the job market and assess the quality of human resources trained by the program.
The instruments used are described below:
- Contact through social media.
- In the four-year period, we started searching for alumni through the publication of thematic posts (“Looking for PPGCNEM Alumni”) on the PPGCNEM profile on Instagram (@cnem.unicamp). Several alumni made contact, others were “tagged” by classmates, friends, and their advisors and answered questions about their professional performance after completing the course in the program. With the aim of publicizing alumni and increasing the visibility of PPGCNEM, some alumni were invited to record a short video or write a post explaining how the training in PPGCNEM contributed to their professional success. The engagement was quite significant, reaching 100% of followers and more than 5% of non-followers.
- In addition to Instagram, the search for alumni is carried out through Lattes and LinkedIn. In recent years, LinkedIn has become the program's most promising search tool, especially for alumni working abroad.
- For alumni that PPGCNEM did not get any type of return, the information was obtained directly from the program's former advisors and confirmed through targeted internet searches.
- Monitoring the institutional alumni data panel.
- The UNICAMP General Coordination (CGU) created a panel in 2019 with the scientific production of alumni, for access by all coordinators and administrative technicians linked to each Graduate Program of the Institution, available at the electronic address. The panel presents data from alumni from 2014 to the present and provides, in addition to the intellectual production of graduate alumni, data on the number of alumni per year per graduate program and employability data from the Lattes platform and RAIS (Annual Social Information Relationship).
- Availability of the Alumni Platform.
- The tool, which functions as a University database, traces the trajectories of former students, in addition to stimulating the establishment of contact networks for mentoring, internships, and jobs. The platform was inaugurated in August 2020 and already has more than 110,000 registered alumni.
In the last four-year period (2021-2024), the program registered 91 alumni (50 master's and 41 doctorate). Some of these alumni (3 master's and 3 doctorate) are not included in the list presented, as we did not get a return to the contact made. Of the total mapped master's alumni (47), 42.6% (20 masters) are enrolled in doctoral courses, whether from PPG-CNEM itself (90% or 18 students), or other PPGs at UFSC and UNIFESP (2 students). Two (2) PPG-CNEM doctoral students work in other institutions concurrently with the doctorate in the areas of research and teaching. The remaining 57.4% of alumni (27 masters) are working in their own offices, public and private bodies, such as city halls and hospitals, or even, inserted in the industry. As for the mapped doctorate alumni (38), only 28.9% (11 doctors) work outside the academic environment, in public bodies, basic education, research and development in industry, or independently. About 18% (7 researchers) are doing post-doctorates at IES in Brazil and another 18% (7 researchers) abroad. Furthermore, 31.6% of alumni (12 doctors) work as teachers at IES, two (2) of them at public universities.
